The File Manager in cPanel is a versatile tool that allows you to manage your website's files directly from your web browser, without the need for FTP clients. Whether you're uploading new files, editing existing ones, or organizing your directory structure, the File Manager makes these tasks simple and efficient. This guide will walk you through the basics of using the File Manager in cPanel.

Steps to Use the File Manager in cPanel

  1. Log in to cPanel: Access your cPanel dashboard by navigating to your website's URL followed by "/cpanel". Enter your login details to proceed.

  2. Access the File Manager: Look for the "Files" section on your cPanel home screen and click on "File Manager". This will open the File Manager interface, showing you the files and directories of your hosting account.

  3. Navigate Your Files: Use the left sidebar to navigate through your folders. Clicking on a folder will display its contents in the main window. You can return to your home directory at any time by clicking on the "Home" icon at the top of the sidebar.

  4. Upload Files:

    • Navigate to the directory where you want to upload files.
    • Click on the "Upload" icon in the top toolbar. A new tab will open where you can select files from your computer to upload.
    • Drag and drop files or click to select files from your device. The upload will start automatically.
  5. Create New Files or Folders:

    • To create a new folder, click on the "Folder" icon in the top toolbar, enter the name of your new folder, and click "Create New Folder".
    • To create a new file, click on the "File" icon, enter the name of your file, including the file extension, and then click "Create New File".
  6. Edit Files:

    • Locate the file you wish to edit and right-click on it. Select "Edit" or "Code Edit" for HTML and PHP files. If prompted, click "Edit" again to confirm.
    • Make your changes in the editor that opens. Once done, click "Save Changes" at the top right.
  7. Manage Files:

    • Copy/Move: Select files or folders and use the "Copy" or "Move" icons to change their location. Specify the target directory and confirm your action.
    • Delete: Select unwanted files or folders and click the "Delete" icon. Confirm deletion by clicking the "Confirm" button in the prompt.
    • Compress/Extract: To save space or prepare files for download, select them and click "Compress". Choose the archive format and compress. To extract files, select an archive and click "Extract".
  8. Search Files: Use the search function in the top right to quickly find files by name within the current directory or your entire account.
